How most digital nomads stack VoyaSIM plans
Nomadism is rarely "one trip, one plan". After serving over a million travelers, the stacks that actually work for people who move every 2-8 weeks tend to look like this:
For someone touring one region for 1-3 months: buy the largest regional plan that covers your trip (e.g. Europe 20 GB / 30 days $21.90, or two of them for 60 days). Keep a $1-2 country starter installed but not activated as backup in case you run out.
For someone changing continents every few weeks: keep a Global plan (50 GB / 90 days $48.70 or 100 GB / 180 days $102.50) as the always-on line. When you settle somewhere for 4+ weeks and need heavier data, add a single-country plan for that stop on top.
If your laptop tethers off your phone all day for client work, plan for at least 30-50 GB / month. The Europe 20 GB plan ($21.90) or two of them gives the lowest per-GB cost. If you don't have reliable Airbnb Wi-Fi, factor in another 10-20 GB.

Can I use an eSIM as my main line while working remotely for months?

Will hotspot/tethering work for laptop work calls and Zoom?
Yes — most VoyaSIM plans support hotspot (check the plan detail page to confirm). For sustained video-call work, plan for ~1 GB per hour of HD video, ~250 MB per hour of audio-only calls, and ~500 MB per hour of mixed remote-work activity (browser, Slack, email, occasional video). A 20 GB / 30-day Europe plan covers about 40 hours of HD calling, or 80+ hours of audio-only meetings.
What about China — will my eSIM bypass the Great Firewall?
It depends on the plan. Single-country China eSIMs typically route through Hong Kong partner carriers, which often means you can still reach Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, ChatGPT and most Western services without a separate VPN. Our China-specific plan detail page lists the routing partner. Note that this is provider-dependent and can change without notice — confirm before relying on it for client work.
How do I avoid running out of data mid-trip with no Wi-Fi?
Three habits: (1) Buy the next size up from what you calculated — data usage is consistently underestimated. (2) Turn on the data warnings in your phone Settings so you see the rate of burn. (3) Keep a $2-3 single-country starter plan installed (not activated) as an emergency backup. If you do run out mid-trip, buy another plan from VoyaSIM and it installs alongside — no need to remove the original eSIM.
Can I get receipts for tax write-offs?
Yes. Every purchase triggers an order confirmation email with the plan name, total paid, currency, and transaction date — the line items most accounting tools need for self-employed expense reporting and business reimbursement claims. Your full purchase history is also visible in the Order History section of your VoyaSIM account, which you can screenshot or share with your accountant.
I move between continents every few weeks. Is a Global plan worth it?
Probably yes. The Global eSIM covers 120+ countries on one plan — at $8.90 / day or $48.70 / 90 days for 50 GB, it's priced higher per-GB than a regional plan but saves the hassle of swapping eSIMs at every continental change. If you typically stay 2-4 weeks per stop and cross 4+ regions per year, a Global plan plus occasional single-country top-ups is usually the lowest total cost.
What happens if I change SIM and lose my eSIM data balance?
You don't lose it. The eSIM profile and its data balance live in your VoyaSIM account, not on a specific phone. If you switch phones or get a new SIM, you can reinstall the same eSIM by re-scanning the original QR or downloading it from your account — your remaining balance and validity carry over.
